REVIEW

Today I’m going to give you another flashback… the 5 essential albums by Death Row Records that need to be in your collection if you’re planning to pursue your dreams as an artist (Emcee, DJ, Producer, Writer, whatever). Founded by the legendary Producer Doctor Dre and Suge Knight in ‘91, Death Row Records ushered in the new sound of Hip Hop…Point Blank Period!!! Snoop Dogg, The Lady of Rage, Jewell, RBX, D.O.C., Tha Dogg Pound, the aforementioned Dr. Dre, and Hip Hop’s best selling artist, 2PAC, were the core crew that was responsible for selling over 150 million albums doing their reign on top. Responsible for making the entire nation recognize what the West Coast sound really was about, no other squad (except N.W.A.) had as much influence on how the West Coast will forever be understood. In no particular order the 5 essential Death Row Records Albums are… Doctor Dre- The Chronic (Banged from Cali to the Big Apple with no problem!!! This placed Dre in the history books as one of the greatest producers ever!!!!!!) Above The Rim/Murda Was The Case SDTK- Together, these soundtracks gave audible glimpses into the limited opportunities people of color face daily

2PAC- All Eyes On Me (One of Hip Hop’s First Double Albums). Contained California Love, Ambitionz, I Ain’t Mad at Cha, and much, much more. 2PAC has a legacy that will never be rivaled or overthrown. His impact on every emcee worldwide is tremendous and untouchable. If anyone you know never heard of 2PAC or owns nothing by him….please do me a favor….SLAP THE SH*T OUT OF THEM!!!!!!!

Tha Dogg Pound- Dogg Food (West Coast Dynamic Duo). Daz became one of Hip Hop’s dopest producers and Kurupt became one of Hip Hop’s most feared on the mic. Going down with some of the great duos (EPMD, Das Efx, etc.) of all time.

Snoop Dogg- Doggystyle (will be in the running for Hip Hop’s greatest debut albums). Snoop possesses what very few MC’s do…skill, style, highly recognizable voice, built in fan base, and understanding that image is everything in entertainment. Definitely one of Hip Hop’s best, Snoop has seen everyone of his albums reach multi-platinum status. His latest Ego-Trippin’ (Doggystyle) will be hitting stores in March and doing more to solidify his legacy. Doggystyle had the distinction of being Hip Hop’s best selling debut, moving over 5 million units in 1993 (50 Cent sold more with his debut album), and is arguably his greatest work.
